This weekend, myself and a small group of kind folks participated in the Global Free Hugs campaign. We offered hugs to anyone open to accepting one in Union Square located in downtown San Francisco. We hugged visitors from Germany, men, women, kids, seniors, babies, people of all walks of life, helped out several groups doing scavenger hunts, did a mock proposal, spelled school names out, sang happy anniversary to a couple via video, all while smiling and laughing the whole time.
In the end, we all felt warm and fuzzy. It's such a small act, giving someone a hug that can have a huge impact on someone who is having a rough day. It was touching afternoon, especially the man who at the end of our afternoon said that we made his day because he hadn't had a hug in a long time. Heartbreaking and touching. You never know where people are at in their lives or even in that moment and being able to make a difference is amazing. Now, how about a hug?
